Recommendations for glue rolls |
Many times we change corrugating rolls and we forget the importance to repair the glue and doctor rolls. These rolls are vital part of the gluing process since they take the glue to the flute tips and in order to make this evenly the dimensions of the glue roll must be very precise. It is common that the glue roll gets into contact with the corrugating roll and the surface of its body usually gets damaged. Proper crowning in the glue roll is other important factor for an adequate application of the glue. What we mean by crowning is the difference between the diameters in the center and at the end of the body of the roll. It varies from brand to brand and the only way to obtain precision crowning is using a CNC cylindrical grinder. Glue rolls must have a proper surface finish for adequate performance. After grinding we must sandblast these rolls (80/100 Gritt) for good adherence. And doctor rolls, In the other hand, must have a smooth surface which we obtain with a flash chrome plate. These are the reasons why we highly recommend changing or repairing your glue and doctor rolls when you notice any damage on its surface. And every time you replace a set of corrugating rolls you must at least grind and apply the proper surface finish by a specialized machine shop as TALLERES AMERICA.
